The hospital is a place for acute care. When your parent's health is stabilized, hospitalization is no longer justified. Depending on the situation and your parent's needs, he or she will be asked to choose a short-stay EMS while waiting to return home or a long-stay EMS if his or her state of health requires it.

In order to support the caregiver of an elderly person and to prevent his or her exhaustion, it is possible to organize a short respite stay. This allows the caregiver to have time to rest and do activities that he or she can no longer organize on a daily basis, when the burden is too great.

When a hospital stay is planned, and your spouse cannot stay at home alone, it is possible to organize a short stay in an EMS. There are 3 main sites, the EMS Le temps présent in La Chaux-de-Fonds, La Résidence in Le Locle and Les Charmettes in Neuchâtel.
What is short-stay EMS and how much does it cost?
This type of accommodation is intended for the elderly person at home who requires care after a hospital stay, immediate reception following a sudden event, or for whom the family caregiver needs a break. These services are limited in time and are mainly focused on the return home of the person being cared for.
In this context, the rate for a short stay is CHF. 107.20 per day. This amount is reimbursed by the supplementary benefits for those entitled to them, with a deduction of 21.50 for meals.
